Men suspected to be herdsmen have abducted passengers who were heading to Ikom Local Government Area of Cross River State.

According to a driver whose passengers were abducted, the men came out of the bush and were shooting sporadically and even damaged his tire.

He said, “I was driving to Ikom from Calabar and heard gunshots, I quickly tried to hit reverse but they shot at my tire and my vehicle collided with another vehicle that was heading towards the opposite direction.
I then ran into the bush for my dear but unfortunately for my passengers, six of them were abducted”.
Another driver who had bloodstains on his shirt said his brothers were also kidnapped by the suspected bandits.

Meanwhile, according to reports from News Annex, 8 out of the nine passengers yesterday abducted between Uyangha and Okomita by gunmen suspected to be herdsmen have been rescued by the police.

Though the ninth person is yet to be accounted for, thoughts are that he escaped.

Owing to the fact that there was no manifest, the identities of those rescued and the missing person could not be immediately verified
