INEC Holds Methology Workshop Of Survey On Public Perception Of Polling Units With Zero To Fifty Voters In AMAC.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Wednesday held a Methology Workshop of survey on public perception of Polling Units with Zero To Fifty Voters in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).

In his welcome address, the Director-General of The Electoral Institute, Dr Sa’ad Umar Idris, welcomed all participants to the workshop and stressed the importance of the Survey to the Commission. The DG in his speech posed the questions on what are the reasons for the failure of registered voters, particularly the enlightened residents of AMAC, to move to the newly established PUs even though the PUs were taken closer to their places of residence? How could the 0 – 50 registered voters PUs be better understood and managed? What type of voter engagement can we embark upon to explain to the populace the presence of new PUs. The DG urged the participants to justify the confidence the Commission reposed in them by providing answers to the questions raised.

The Chairman, BEI, Prof. Abdullahi Abdu Zuru, in his address, challenged the R&D staff to prove their worth as think-tank for the Commission. He noted that the Commission is disturbed that despite the creation of new polling units, voters in AMAC did not utilise opportunity given to them to move to the new PUs. This, he said necessitated the need for the Survey. The Chair also said the AMAC Survey is a litmus test for R&D to see if Commission would be able to rely on to provide answers to the above challenge and replicate same nation-wide.

He finally wished participants a successful outing and declared the workshop open.

The above Methodology Workshop was held at TEI and had in attendance the Chairman of the Board of the Electoral Institute (BEI), Prof. Abdullahi Abdu Zuru, Director-General of The Electoral Institute, Dr Sa’ad Umar Idris, Director, Research & Documentation, Dr Ibrahim Sani, Director Training, Dr Binta Kasim, Mr. Tunde Ojedokun Ag.
