The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has completed the registration of new voters for the upcoming governorship elections in Edo and Ondo States. After a thorough process of claims, objections, and data cleaning using the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS), the commission has announced the final figures.
In Edo State, 119,206 new voters have been added to the register, while Ondo State has 58,708 new voters. These numbers do not include transfer requests from other states, with 8,847 applicants moving to Edo State and 3,132 to Ondo State. Additionally, intra-state transfers are already reflected in the existing voter register.
The new voter registrations and inter-state transfers are being integrated into the existing register. INEC will release the updated voter register in the coming days, paving the way for a credible and transparent electoral process in the two states.
This development marks a significant milestone in the preparations for the Edo and Ondo State governorship elections, ensuring that all eligible citizens have the opportunity to participate in the democratic process.
