INCREASED INSECURITY: Gov Masari Blames Religious Leaders

GOVERNOR Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina State has blamed Islamic leaders in the State for not preaching the true meaning of Islam to followers.

He said failing to preach the true tenet of Islam to followers is causing the State a severe security challenges such as banditry, kidnapping, rape and other social verses.

He made the disclosure Saturday at a 2-day security awareness seminar for Jama’at Mosque Imams and other Islamic religious leaders in Katsina State organised by the office of the Special Adviser on Security Matters.

According to Gov. Masari, “Nigeria as a country is facing different security challenges which started with Boko Haram even though it has reduced but banditry and kidnapping is still with us here in Katsina. The banditry here in Katsina started with the cows rustling and later turn to kidnapping, raping, burning of people belonging”.

He decried that ‘In the Sahara region, Nigeria is the most richest among the countries and kidnappers IIJ including armed dealers, all have converge here and making kidnapping business by demanding high amount before they released a victim”.

The Emir of Katsina, Alh. Abdulmumini Abu Usman who also told the Imams to shun sect differences and join hands with the government in fighting insecurity.

“You must embrace peace if you want development. Shun Islamic sect’s differences and preach peace”, Katsina Emir said.

Also contributing, leader of Izala sect in Katsina, Shiek Yakubu Musa noted that Islam is not terrorism hence there is need for religious leaders especially in Katsina State to preach what Prophet Muhammad says about Islam which is peace.

In his welcoming address, the Special Adviser to Governor Masari on Security Matters, Alh Ibrahim Katsina said the Seminar is aimed at brainstorming with religious leaders considering the importance role of religion institution playing in restoring peace and security in the society.

“We want them to join hands to offer their contributions through preachings as a means of fostering the fighting Insecurity in Katsina State”.

The seminar titled “Combating insecurity through Da’awa’, aimed at brainstorming with religious leaders and offer contributions through preachings as a means of fighting Insecurity in Katsina State held at Local Government Service Commission had in attendance the Governor of Katsina State, Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari, the Emirs of Katsina and representative of Daura, Islamic religious leaders among others.
