Humanitarian Ministry, Correctional Service Launch Joint Committee on Rehabilitation, Reintegration

The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction has inaugurated a Joint Technical Committee on Strategic Collaboration with the Nigeria Correctional Service as part of efforts to strengthen rehabilitation programmes and promote sustainable reintegration of inmates into society.
The Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Olubunmi Olusanya, inaugurated the committee during a ceremony held on May 6, 2026, at the ministry’s conference room in Abuja.
According to the ministry, the initiative is designed to deepen inter-agency collaboration, improve rehabilitation mechanisms within correctional centres, and support reintegration programmes aimed at reducing recidivism and enhancing social inclusion.
The committee is expected to drive strategic partnerships and develop frameworks that will strengthen welfare and empowerment initiatives for persons within the correctional system.
