House of Reps Minority Caucus Demand Action After Deadly Fuel Tanker Explosion

The House of Representatives Minority Caucus in Nigeria, has condemned the devastating fuel tanker explosion in Niger State, which claimed the lives of over 90 people and injured several others.
This was contained in a statement jointly signed by the Minority Caucus leaders, Rep Kingsley Chinda, Rt. Hon. Dr. Ali Isa J. C Minority Whip,, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Madaki Deputy Minority Leader, Rt. Hon. George Ozodinobi Deputy Minority Whip.
Peeved by this ugly development, the Caucus noted: “that poverty is truly ravaging the people, these avoidable deaths should not be condoned.
The lawmakers are demanding a thorough investigation and legislative action to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
The Caucus expressed its deepest condolences to the families of the victims and the government and people of Niger State. They described the incident as “shocking, saddening, and painful” and called for punitive measures against those found culpable.
The lawmakers also urged the Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC) and other relevant agencies to improve traffic management and safety regulations to minimize the risk of such accidents. They appealed for collaboration among medical institutions to ensure the speedy recovery of those injured in the explosion.
The Minority Caucus emphasized that poverty should not be used as an excuse for neglecting safety protocols, and that those responsible for the tragedy should be held accountable. They called for a legislative solution to the recurring problem of petrol tanker accidents in Nigeria.
