In a significant move towards fostering national stability, the Global Alliance for Peace and Unity (GAPU), under the leadership of its President, Solomon Pevkyaa, has partnered with Member House of Representative Akwanga/ Wamba /Nasarawa Eggon Federal Constituency and Vice Chairman House Committee on Public Account Hon. J.J Umaru (Sabon Salo) to advance efforts in promoting and sustaining peace across Nigeria.

The visit by GAPU marks a strategic alliance aimed at addressing the rising tensions and ensuring long-lasting peace in the country.

During the visit, President Pevkyaa expressed deep concern over the destruction of properties by youth during protests, calling for more constructive ways to express grievances.

He stressed that “peace and unity are more expensive than anything,” emphasizing the critical need to preserve harmony in the face of social unrest.

Pevkyaa commended Hon. Umaru, recognizing him as a “unifying factor” for his community, constituency, and Nigeria at large.

He applauded the lawmaker for not disappointing the youth and called on other leaders to emulate Umaru’s transparent and inclusive leadership style.

As a testament to his efforts, Hon. JJ Umaru was honored with a certificate of commendation as a “Peace and Unity Advocate” and was decorated as an icon of peace and youth empowerment in Nigeria.

The recognition highlights his significant contributions to promoting national unity and empowering the younger generation.

In his response, Hon. Umaru expressed deep gratitude to GAPU for the recognition, stating, “There is no substitute for peace and unity. Whatever I do, I first check its peaceful nature.”

He added that many of the issues leading to protests, riots, and chaos stem from a lack of fairness and transparency.

“My burning desire is to cause change,” Umaru remarked, underscoring his commitment to fair and transparent leadership, which has even led opposition party members to decamp to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Sabon Salo further outlined his achievements, including numerous youth empowerment initiatives, efforts to improve the quality of education, and the construction of a senior citizen center in Akwanga to cater to the elderly.

He reiterated his passion for the development of his community, emphasizing that peace is a collective responsibility.

In a show of solidarity, Hon. JJ Umaru assured GAPU of his unwavering support for their mission and objectives.

He called on all Nigerians to actively promote peace, urging that “peace is a collective responsibility that everyone must shoulder.”

Looking ahead, Umaru is set to host the 2024 Peace and Unity Summit organized by GAPU, a gathering that will bring together leaders, stakeholders, and advocates to discuss sustainable solutions for peacebuilding in Nigeria.

The summit is poised to be a pivotal event in shaping the nation’s approach to resolving conflicts and ensuring long-term stability.
