Governor Otu Unveils Theme for 20th Anniversary of Carnival Calabar

The theme for the 20th anniversary of Carnival Calabar has been unveiled as “Traces of Time.” The event was announced by Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja.
Governor Otu revealed the theme, which promises a reflective and electrifying showcase of history, identity, and future aspirations.

The carnival marks two decades of being Africa’s biggest street party, attracting tourists and showcasing the state’s rich cultural heritage.
Governor Otu highlighted innovations introduced under his administration, including the reintroduction of the Junior Carnival and the Ikom and Ogoja Carnivals.
The carnival will feature competing bands showcasing their cultural heritage and creativity and it is expected to boost tourism and the local economy, with support from partners like AfriExim Bank and Deloitte.

Guests, including diplomats, heads of foreign missions, and industry leaders, were invited to witness the 20th anniversary celebration in Calabar in December 2025.
Tourism experts and cultural ambassadors praised the carnival’s global appeal and potential for cultural exchange.
