Ghana Bar Association Issues Resolutions on Key National Issues

The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has issued a series of resolutions on key national issues, including the suspension of the Chief Justice, illegal mining activities, and the Bawku conflict, at its 2025 Mid-Year Conference held in Accra.

In a remarkable address delivered by the GBA President, Barrister Mrs. Efua Ghartey at the prestigious Labadi Beach Hotel, Accra on Saturday day, April 26, 2025

Key Resolutions:

  • Suspension of Chief Justice: The GBA has called for the immediate revocation of the suspension of the Chief Justice, citing concerns about the constitutionality of the suspension and the need for transparency and accountability in proceedings involving superior court justices.
  • Galamsey: The association has condemned illegal mining activities, known as “galamsey,” and called for decisive action by all arms of government, law enforcement agencies, and relevant stakeholders to eradicate the menace.
  • Bawku Conflict: The GBA has commended the mediation efforts in the Bawku conflict and supported the involvement of traditional authorities, particularly the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, in fostering reconciliation and lasting peace.

Ablekuma North Parliamentary Elections: The association has called on the Electoral Commission and other relevant authorities to resolve the impasse in the Ablekuma North parliamentary elections and declare the results to uphold the democratic rights of the people.

Other Key Issues:

  • Court Case Assignment: The GBA has requested the withdrawal of a directive on the assignment of cases by the Acting Chief Justice and the enhancement of technology in case assignment.
  • Judiciary Independence: The association has denounced unsubstantiated political commentary or statements that seek to undermine the authority, independence, and integrity of the Judiciary.

The GBA’s resolutions highlight the association’s commitment to upholding the rule of law, ensuring justice for all citizens, and promoting high standards of integrity within public life.
