GETTING OLD: REALITIES OF RETIREMENT (Part 1)
Observe these painful bitter truths and order your working career right/better. Be wise. Be temperate. Be humble. Be balance.
Nothing real is new. If new, it’s not real.
At retirement, that is when you’re no longer employable by organizations other than the one you set up.
1) You’re no longer popular in that ‘big’ office.
2) You avoid going to your former office without invitation. Remember you’ve lost been part of it.
3) Where it’s absolutely necessary, you’ll inform someone or an officer there of your intended visit so that you can be received.
4) Now you’ll know that not everyone liked you while at work hence will be an ample opportunity to snob or ‘give it to’ you.
5) You’ll keep in touch with your coursemates, school mates and class mates as you grow into retirement because some Pharaohs in Egypt may not know you as a Joseph. Revive if possible and or participate in alumni meetings more than ever.
6) Attend celebrations of course- class and school mates. It’s always a reunion with lots of fun.
7) Only a few of the people you assisted in life & career (including family members children inclusive) will come around to see you often at old age/retirement. To others you have nothing to offer: you’re tagged old fool, old cargo, my old man/woman, mumsy/popsy. So don’t bank too much on family (in exclusion of mates). Remember family members can have diaries/records of your failures, weaknesses, helps you did not render and vendettas to pay you back while outsiders like school mates don’t have those records than you’re a mate or such. Remember, children will fall in love, either their wives will divert them away from you or their husband dictatorially ban them from you.
8) Plan your days (I mean retirement) & follow your plan.
Allow me speak to your “About-To-Retire/Be-Terminated” even Everyone in your organization on “Preparatory for Retirement/Resignation” series.
A bank dropped over 5000 employees in a day in first week of 2020 unannounced. Such bombs will hit economic wave in 2020.
Retirement Planning & Succession Planning. to me as entrepreneurial and investment sage is the toughest class of planning. Be guided to avoid been a penniless old fool: “I was once a bank manager giving out loans to others who cannot afford a sachet water now.” – Mike Ihezuo.
