FOOD SECURITY: CBN, make fund easy to farmers — Gov Masari

Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina State has made a case for Central Bank of Nigeria to make it easy for farmers to access funds under agriculture in the country to enable them improve their productivity for food sufficiency.

Gov Masari made the case at the occasion of year 2020 Agricultural Credit Guarantee Scheme, ACGS, the best farmer’s award held Wednesday in Katsina.

“If we look at other sectors of the economy, what goes to agriculture is not enough. I urged you to do more for farmers as what it has done is not enough.

He noted that, the commercial banks are only interested in traders, oil and importers because of low returns in agriculture, said profits without development will not take the state where it should be.

“Over 7 million people are farmers in Katsina state, investments in agriculture and livestock development if properly harnessed, can sustain the state to attain the desired objective”.

Meanwhile, the Governor enjoined the apex Bank to look inward to enable them to reap more of its programs as he appreciated them for efforts done so far for farmers in the Katsina state,

Earlier, the State branch Controller of CBN, Alhaji Dahiru Usman, appreciated the state government for the support extended to the Apex bank, adding that, the gesture has no doubt indicated commitment for the development of agriculture in the state.
