The Federal Government of Nigeria has disclosed its plan to fortify the whistleblowing policy with a robust legal framework. This development aims to bolster the policy’s effectiveness, address existing challenges, and encourage more individuals to come forward and report corruption and misconduct in government dealings.
At a one-day sensitization workshop, the Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, underscored the government’s unwavering commitment to transparency, accountability, and integrity in governance. He highlighted the policy’s achievements since its inception in 2016, including significant recoveries made possible by courageous whistleblowers.
The draft bill, currently in preparation, will provide a solid legal foundation for the whistleblowing policy, ensuring protection and support for those who dare to speak out against corruption. This move is expected to foster a culture of transparency and accountability, ultimately strengthening the country’s governance framework.
As the government takes this significant step, Nigerians look forward to a future where corruption is tackled head-on, and integrity becomes the hallmark of public service. The whistleblowing policy, now reinforced with legal backing, is poised to become a powerful tool in the fight against corruption, empowering citizens to contribute to a more transparent and just society.
