EUSDGN PROJECT: IPC-Nigeria, is one of the implementing partners of the media Component- Arogundade

The Executive Director, International Press Centre (IPC), Mr. Lanre Arogundade has disclosed that the Centre is among implementing partners of the media Component of the EU Support to Democratic Governance in Nigeria (EUSDGN), programme phase II.

Lanre stated this while speaking in a panel session at the closure of Phase I of EUSDGN project in Nigeria, and the launch of EUSDGN phase II in Abuja on Monday.

He said IPC-Nigeria had brought together over 300 individual media houses in the phase I of EU-SDGN to endorse and subscribe to the Nigeria Media Code of Election Coverage to provide credible information and create adequate public awareness on their choices in the electoral process.

Speaking in a panel session on the EU-SDGN’s contributions to Nigeria’s democratic consolidation, Lanre disclosed that in 2018 while working with EU-SDGN, IPC engaged with the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) and also brought together over 300 individual media houses to endorse and subscribe to the Nigeria Media Code of Election Coverage which was a statement of commitment to provide credible information, so that citizens can make informed choices in the electoral process.

Mr  Arogundade also disclosed IPC’s a continuous media engagement with various media houses to curb fake news through fact-checking and to provides credible information for Nigeria voters come 2023 general elections.

He urges journalists covering the 2023 election to abide with the provisions of the Nigerian Media Code of Election Coverage requiring adherence to the ethical and professional standards and also abide with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended) and refrain from publishing results that are not approved by INEC.
