The Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment has appealed to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to work together to amicably resolve issues rather than embark on actions that would further worsen the conditions of the citizens of Nigeria.

The Hon. Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Bako Lalong, stated this on Monday 4th of September, 2023 in Abuja while appealing to the union to call off its intending 2-day warning strike.

Lalong who noted that the strike would reverse the gains that the government has made so far promised never to take labour and Nigerian workers for granted, adding that the federal government had already initiated some actions to cushion the effect of the subsidy removal and was willing to find solutions to the challenges confronting Nigerians as a result of its policies.

Lalong urged NLC to give government some time to settle and address the issues raised as the cabinet of this administration was only recently sworn in by Mr. President,

“Therefore, the issues raised by the leadership of the NLC are some issues that I and the Hon. Minister of State for Labour and Employment are being briefed upon. In the next few weeks, we intend to address them holistically

The minister however, notified the NLC executives that they were yet to furnish his office with a letter on their proposed action, saying he got to know of their plans through media reports.
