EDO GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION: INEC/TEI convenes Stakeholders to enhance Dialogue on participation

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), through The Electoral Institute (TEI), convened a Policy Dialogue with esteemed electoral stakeholders, including key Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and ICCES members.
The a pivotal gathering took place at Vichigate Hotel and Suites on August 21, 2024, was aimed to enhance voter participation and inclusivity in the upcoming Edo State Governorship Election on September 21.
In his Welcome address read by, the Hon REC Edo State, Dr Anugbum Onuaha, the DG TEI explained that the Policy Dialogue was organised to provide valuable feedback that would help the Commission in its bid for successful peaceful and inclusive elections on the 21st September 2024. The REC further highlighted the importance of conducting credible, transparent and all inclusive elections and assured the participants of INEC’s commitment to credible election.
The dialogue brought together influential figures, including Prof. Abdullahi Abu Zuru, Chair of the Board of Electoral Institute (BEI), Dr. Anugbum Onuoha, Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of Edo State, and other distinguished guests. The atmosphere was electric, filled with a sense of purpose and collective responsibility.
Through engaging discussions and expert insights, the stakeholders explored innovative strategies to boost voter engagement and ensure a free, fair, and credible election. The Policy Dialogue marked a significant step towards deepening democracy in Edo State, fostering a sense of unity and shared commitment among participants.
As the event drew to a close, the room resonated with a renewed sense of determination. The Edo State Governorship Election was not just a political event, but a celebration of democracy, inclusivity, and the power of collective action. With this Policy Dialogue, the stage was set for a landmark election that would shape the future of Edo State and inspire a brighter democratic trajectory.
