Dialogue With Media/ CSO Aims to Enhance Weather and Climate Reporting- NiMet DG

The Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMet), on Tuesday, organized a One day sensitization workshop on Timely and Accurate Weather reporting.
The workshop brings together fighters, journalists, and civil society organizations to strengthen collaboration and empower participants to effectively carry out their vital roles in disaster preparedness, farming, and food production.
In his opening remarks the NiMet Director General, Professor Charles Anosike said the Media/ CSO dialogue aims to enhance collaboration for disaster preparedness and climate resilience
Speaking earlier, the facilitator, Mr. Bonaventure Phillips Melah, C.E.O First Green resources and integrated LTD, emphasized the crucial role of the media in informing the public about critical itweather and climate issues.
He enumerated the key objectives to include:
– To enhance timely, quality, and accurate weather and climate reporting.
– Improve journalists’ ability to interpret weather and climate data.
– Foster collaboration between NiMet experts and journalists to ensure effective communication of complex scientific information.
At the end of the workshop, participants understood the importance of sending out accurate timely weather and climate information for public consumption and necessary action.
The dialogue also aims to address challenges faced by journalists in reporting weather and climate-related issues and to identify ways to improve the process for better quality information delivery to the public.
By working together, participants aim to build a more resilient Nigeria, better equipped to face climate-related challenges and extreme weather events.
