C’River Govt Receives New UNHCR Head of Office, Commits to Partnership

The Cross River State government on Thursday, received the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Head of Office for Cross River State, Mr Rafau Makou who was recently posted to the State.
Mr Makou is expected to oversee the UN Agency’s refugee operations in Bakassi, Ikom and Ogoja Local Government Areas.
UNHCR is one of the development partners in Cross River State whose core area of intervention bothers on refugees and internally displaced persons in the State.
Presenting the New UN Head before the Ministry of International Development Cooperation, Mr. Richard Effiong, the operations officer, said the call was to intimate the state government of the departure of the former Head of office Mr. Mahammed Nafion and to discuss future partnerships, regarding refugees and IDPs, in line with the UNHCR’s mandate.
Speaking during the presentation, the outgoing Head of Office, Mr. Mahammed Nafion thanked the Cross River State government for the partnership and overall working relationship during his stay in the state.
Receiving the new head and members of his delegation on behalf of the state government in Calabar, the Commissioner, Ministry of International Development Cooperation (MIDC), Dr. Inyang Asibong, thanked UNHCR, particularly the outgoing head of office for his unalloyed commitment to duty.
Dr Asibong congratulated the new Head of Office, promising the Ministry’s commitment in enhancing a better working synergy geared at actualizing set goals in the State.
Highpoints of the meeting was the presentation of gift by the Head of Office to the MIDC Commissioner and other inugural engagements.
