The Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) has strongly criticized the recent arrest and subsequent release of Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado, the Executive Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC). Rimingado was apprehended by officers of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Monitoring Unit in what CISLAC has described as a deliberate attempt to undermine Nigeria’s anti-corruption efforts.

In a statement signed by CISLAC’s Executive Director, Auwal Musa Rafsanjani, the organization labeled the arrest a case of “corruption fighting back,” raising concerns over the erosion of public trust and the impact on the nation’s fight against corruption.

According to Rafsanjani, Rimingado’s arrest appears linked to an ongoing investigation into properties allegedly tied to a prominent figure within the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The PCACC, under Rimingado’s leadership, had seized the properties as part of its efforts to combat corruption, in line with its legal mandate and a court order.

Rimingado was detained on Friday evening and later released on bail, with instructions to appear at the Force Headquarters in Abuja for further questioning.

CISLAC expressed apprehension that the arrest may be politically motivated, aimed at shielding influential individuals from legitimate investigations.

“The Inspector General of Police must ensure his office is not exploited by desperate politicians to undermine anti-corruption efforts,” Rafsanjani stated. “Such actions tarnish the police force’s reputation, weaken public confidence in state institutions, and damage Nigeria’s image globally.”

The organization also emphasized the broader implications of political interference in law enforcement, warning that it compromises the country’s anti-corruption framework and contradicts President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability.

CISLAC called on the IGP to uphold justice and resist any political manipulation that undermines Nigeria’s fight against corruption.

The group urged all stakeholders to prioritize integrity and accountability to preserve public trust and institutional credibility.
