CDD Advises INEC On Welfare of Ad Hoc Staff
The Centre for Democracy Development (CDD) has advised INEC to ensure that adequate welfare is provided for the Ad hoc staff during the 2019 elections.
The chairman of CDD (EAC) Professor Adele Jinadu said this on Thursday noted INEC’s negligence on the welfare and security of Ad-hock staff especially the corps members that were deployed to the various poling units.
“Thousands of corps members were deployed last week and it came to our notice as a result of our focus group discussion that there are evidence to contradict the claim of INEC to have provided the necessities”, he said
More so, the Election Analysis Centre (EAC) said that INEC should address the issue of payment of the ad-hock staff that of last week to avoid staff shortage come 23rd.
On the claims of INEC to have distributed sensitive materials to all the geopolitical Zones while updates were given of stolen materials, he said INEC should therefore ensure that both the reported missing materials and the necessary should be redeployed before Saturday to avoid shortage. Citizens that express worries for Saturday 23rd should therefore believe that INEC will this time conduct a free and fare election.
The director, CDD, Idayat Hassan, also said that the places where military is allowed to operate should be maintained and that should be the northeast which includes the Internally Displaced Persons.
He urged INEC to take serious the welfare of the ad-hock staff and also provide adequate security especially for those staff who are not familiar with the areas they have been deployed.
