CAPT. BIU’S DEATH HUGE LOSS TO MARITIME INDUSTRY, SAYS HASSAN

The Executive Secretary / CEO of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Hassan Bello has said that the death of his former boss, Captain Adamu Biu remains a huge loss not only to the maritime industry but to the nation as a whole.

Capt. Biu, whose news of his death broke out earlier in the week, was the third and immediate past Executive Secretary/CEO of the council and served for two terms from 2004-2012. The Apapa headquarters of the council was thrown into mourning over the demise of the former CEO of the agency.

According to Bello, Capt Biu personified professionalism, astute administration and knowledge, having stabilised the Council and led it at its most critical phase of growth.

For the eight years he was at the helms of affairs of the council, Captain Biu brought his wealth of experience as a Master Mariner to connect the NSC to the industry and is credited with pioneering works on Dry Ports and the regulatory status of the NSC.

He was an internationalist who worked assiduously with Shippers’ Councils in Africa thereby bringing regional collaboration which subsists till date.

Many industry stakeholders have expressed their condolences to the management and member of staff of the NSC over Biu’s demise. They include a onetime Managing Director of the council, Chief Adebayo Sarumi, Chairman, Seaport Terminal Operators Association of Nigeria and Executive Vice Chairman, /CEO ENL Consortium, Princess Vicky Haastrup Mr. Val Osifor, Engr. Greg Igbuefemen, Funke Agbor, Bolaji Akinola, Kingsley Anaroke and a host of others.

Captain Biu would be missed by industry stakeholders, especially for his high sense of humour.
