BRISIN Will Provide Correct And On Time Information For Security Agents To Fight Crime-Dr Uwa

Basic Registry Information System in Nigeria (BRISIN), is an integrated data and information infrastructural system built to give a solid foundation for security,  technological and socio- economic development of the country.

The Head of BRISIN implementation in Nigeria, Dr Anthony Uwa disclosed this to journalists on Thursday in Abuja during a media briefing on BRISIN implementation.

He said that an integrated system for the collection, storage and distribution of information is necessary to support the management of the economy. Therefore,  ‘ BRISIN is the heart of the economy of which the credibility of the nation will largely depends on for Nigeria to meet her dream of becoming one of the developed nations in the world.’

Dr Uwa noted that BRISIN has no political party, no colour, no ethnic group, no tribe and no religion; it is for the benefit of every Nigerian.

“BRISIN is a SYSTEM not a Ministry, Department or Agency, but an instrument of self-discipline that will assist Nigeria to the highest height.

Uwa said the system aimed at bringing developmental and economic growth in the country through the use of data collection of people and other relevant information.

“The data received will be used to plan for the management of the nation’s resources,’’ he said.

He highlighted the benefits BRISIN will offer to the nation to include, serving as a reference point and data repository, assist the National Population Commissione, INEC, National Identity Management, fair and equal treatment of citizens and information sharing.

Other benefits are provide data instrument to various levels of governments for administration, monitoring, employment, National Social Security Number and timely data information for intelligence and security strategy.

The pilot phase in the FCT will enable Nigerians to understand fully the enormous benefit of BRISIN to the development of the country,” Uwa said.

“They will ensure that grassroot data and information are gotten and distributed for use by every MDA according to their interest to better manage their sectors.

Three other members of the BRISIN Implementation Committee also took time to answer questions from the journalist.

A member of BRISIN Implementation Committee, Mr. Jimo Lawal who retired from the Federal Ministry of Information, summarized BRISIN as “an acronym for Information Management”.

Mr Lorenzo Santangelo, a Director with Dermo Impex whose company is the solution providers to FGN on BRISIN, said that BRISIN will bring out the potentials of the underground economy which make the country less dependent on crude oil and provide more than 10 million jobs if it is fully implemented.

Dr Emeka Okengwu, the Business Development expert for BRISIN said that BRISIN is a developmental programme that will take about 15 years to be fully in operation. He noted that it is process which will work on real time basis.

The Committee members assured participants at the media briefing that BRISIN will work because funding will not come only from the Government but through the BRISIN Foundation.
