Bangladesh Wins “Best Foreign Exhibitor Country” At Abuja Int’l Trade Fair

The Peoples Republic of Bangladesh High Commission in Nigeria has won the “Best Foreign Exhibitor Country” award at the just concluded Abuja International Trade fair which held between 21 September – 02 October 2019, organised by the Abuja Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ACCI).
This is the first time Bangladesh is attending any trade fair in Abuja.
Speaking, The High Commissioner, Mr Md. Shameem Ahsan who received the Crest and Certificate on the last day, 02 October 2019, from the Director General of Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry, urged the Nigerian business leaders to import from Bangladesh and invest in the country.
In line with the present Government’s thrust on ‘Trade & Economic Diplomacy’, Bangladesh High Commission put up a large stall with its own collection of exportables.
Products exhibited during the period include pharmaceuticals, ceramics, jute and leather items, textiles, RMG & knitwear, tea, jute leaf tea, plastic & melamine, spice & curry powder, pickle, food items, edible oil, coconut oil, rice, snacks, pearl items, sari (jamdani, maslin, silk), nakshi kantha, handicrafts, among others. Publications on export, investment and tourism potentials, among others, were also on display.
Roll-up-Banners containing pictorial description of the impressive achievements of Bangladesh at home and abroad were displayed at the pavilion. Documentaries on the development journey of Bangladesh and favourable investment climate were also screened simultaneously.
During the period, the High Commissioner hosted business leaders, VIPs, journalists and community members.
Hon. Hajiya Dr. Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, State Minister for Federal Capital Territory (FCT) & Hon. Maryam Katagum, State Minister for Industry, Trade and Investments of Nigeria formally inaugurated the Fair on 23 September 2019.
The two Nigerian Ministers, Nigerian Chief of Army Staff along with many Ambassadors/ High Commissioners, local dignitaries and the business leaders visited Bangladesh Stall while making a tour at the fair ground.
Nigeria with an estimated population of about 200 million people, is the largest economy of Africa and 6th largest producer of oil.
Bangladesh is a Commonwealth nation like Nigeria. The High Commission in Nigeria has intensified efforts in consolidating ties with Nigeria through economic and cultural diplomacy.
