The leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has agreed to call of its ongoing nationwide strike.

According to a tweet via its verified Twitter handle @ASUUNGN, the body agreed to return to classrooms because government has now agreed to release N70 billion.

Recall that at the last meeting, government offered N65 billion to cover earned academic allowances and revitalization but has now agreed to add another N5 billion.

“ASUU has agreed to call off the strike and receive N70bn. Stay tuned and wait for the official announcement from the leadership of ASUU. #asuustrike has come to an end!,” the body tweeted via @ASUUNGN.

Recall that University lecturers have been on strike since March 2020, insisting that the strike will be continue unless government meets their demands.

ASUU is demanding for renegotiation of the 2009 agreement and release of funds for revitalization of the University system.

Also, the union is demanding mainstreaming of earned academic allowances into salaries and adoption of UTAS platform for payment of salaries in place of the IPPIS.
