The bonding by Abi and Yakurr Local Government Areas of Cross River State resonates a connection and relationship that is stronger, deeper, and more meaningful than it was.
Undoubtedly, it implies the desire to establish a unique and unparalleled level of understanding, trust, and intimacy, signifying a commitment to creating that extraordinary and lasting bond yearned for long ago.
This played up during the meeting in Calabar by Abi-Yakurr Peoples Assembly with the Calabar State Movement where deliberation centred on the political alignment of Abi and Yakurr Local Government Areas in the proposed agitation for the creation of Ogoja State out of Cross River State.
Top among resolutions reached at the meeting were; on the right to Self-Determination, Abi and Yakurr affirming the resolve to decide their political resolve to remain in Cross River State, should Ogoja State be created, expressed unanimous support for the creation of Ogoja State, on Economic Development, an additional state from the current Cross River State would likely foster significant economic development among other strategic reasons.
A statement by the Abi-Yakurr Peoples Assembly signed by its Secretary, Dr Sam Eno reiterated the importance of remaining in Cross River State underscored as a critical element of their collective identity and future prosperity.
There is a strong commitment to mutual support and collaboration to realize the creation of another state from Cross River State, arising from the meeting.
Going forward, there are now plans to hold expanded meetings with the Ogoja State creation advocacy team, regular follow-ups to monitor progress and ensure unified action.
This meeting came on the heels of an earlier one with Cross River State Governor, Prince Bassey Otu, sustaining the Abi-Yakurr Peoples position.
