Senator (Dr.) George Akume, CON, SGF: Advancing a Digital and Grassroots Strategy for the Renewed Hope Agenda
By Mohammed Tsoken
In Nigeria’s evolving political landscape, Senator (Dr.) George Akume, CON, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, brings unmatched institutional depth and political experience to the task of reshaping mobilisation through technology and structured grassroots engagement.
A retired civil servant who rose to the rank of Permanent Secretary before voluntarily leaving the service in 1998, Akume has since compiled one of the most complete résumés in contemporary Nigerian public life: two-term Governor of Benue State (1999–2007), three-term Senator representing Benue North-West (2007–2019), Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs (2019–2023), and, since June 2023, Secretary to the Government of the Federation under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
A long-time close ally of the president, he combines the administrative discipline of a career bureaucrat with the political instincts of a seasoned elective office-holder.
Drawing on this breadth of experience, Senator Akume has prioritised a digital approach that deploys technology, data, and organised communication channels to link tpresidencyncy more directly with citizens at the base. At the same time, he is reinforcing grassroots mobilisation through a deliberate regional strategy.
Recognising that electoral success is secured at the ward, local government, and polling-unit levels, he has strengthened zonal, state, and local support structures aimed at delivering substantial, verifiable support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, in the 2027 election.
In this effort, he has also served as a facilitator of the political acumen of Ambassador Musa Muhammed Tsoken, enabling focused advocacy for good governance and sustained mobilisation behind the Renewed Hope Agenda and the President’s re-election. A duty Amb Tsoken has paid his dues fully through several television advocacy, newspaper publications, and strategic economic policy documents alongside professors in the areas of economics, security, and social sciences interalia.
The approach rests on three pillars:
Digital Mobilisation – Platforms for voter education, support-group66th registration, and systematic dissemination of the achievements of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Regional Inclusivity – Messages and tactics adapted to the realities, strengths, and aspirations of each geo-political zone.
Grassroots Deepening – Empowerment of the party’s foundational actors: local mobilisers, women, youth, and support groups.
Through this combination of digital tools and renewed emphasis on the base, Senator Akume is helping convert the Renewed Hope Agenda from a policy framework into a tangible experience at the grassroots—while building a more disciplined and coordinated political organisation ahead of 2027.
