With just five days remaining before the commencement of the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, Nigeria is set to join nations from across the world for a historic sporting event scheduled to hold from October 31 to November 13 in Senegal.

The Games are expected to bring together approximately 2,700 young athletes from different countries, marking the first time an Olympic event will be staged on African soil.

With the theme, “Africa welcomes, Dakar celebrates,” the event represents a major milestone for African sports and provides a global platform for young athletes to demonstrate their abilities, gain international exposure and compete in the spirit of Olympic excellence.

For Nigeria, the Games present an opportunity to showcase emerging sporting talents, strengthen youth development programmes and prepare a new generation of athletes for future international competitions, including the Olympic Games.

Beyond the competition, Dakar 2026 is expected to promote friendship, mutual respect and cultural exchange among young people while highlighting Africa’s growing contribution to global sports development.

As preparations enter the final stage, the National Sports Commission (NSC) and the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) remain committed to supporting sports development and expanding opportunities for young Nigerian athletes to compete and excel on the international stage.

The countdown to Dakar 2026 therefore signals not only the beginning of another international sporting competition but also an important moment for Africa to demonstrate its capacity to host and participate in events at the heart of the Olympic movement.
