Renowned athletics coach Felix Onoriode has been appointed chaperone for the Under-11 and Under-15 categories at the forthcoming Athletic Heat 10th Anniversary Meet scheduled for November 7, 2026, at the Yaba College of Technology Sports Complex, Lagos.

The appointment is part of efforts to ensure adequate supervision, guidance and support for young athletes participating in the anniversary competition, which will bring together competitors across different age groups and athletic disciplines.

Onoriode, who has extensive experience in athletics coaching and youth development, is the Secretary-General of the Athletics Coaches Association of Nigeria (ACAN) and heads the Coach Felix Academics and Sports Foundation in Kaduna.

He also serves on the Monitoring Team of the Nigeria Schools Sports Federation (NSSF) and holds a World Athletics coaching certification and licence.

His involvement in athletics development extends to international competitions. In 2025, he led Team Nigeria Athletics at the inaugural Africa Schools Games in Algeria before serving as a sprint coach at the fourth Africa Youth Games in Angola.

These assignments have provided him with experience in preparing and guiding young athletes in competitive environments, particularly in nurturing emerging talents for higher levels of sporting achievement.

His appointment is expected to strengthen the organisation of the youngest categories at the Athletic Heat anniversary meet, with emphasis on the welfare, safety and development of participating athletes.

The November 7 competition will also mark a decade of Athletic Heat’s contribution to sports development, providing an opportunity to celebrate its achievements while encouraging the next generation of Nigerian athletes.

The initiative’s continued focus on young competitors highlights the importance of grassroots sports development and creating opportunities for emerging talents to showcase their abilities, gain competitive experience and develop their potential.

The announcement was contained in a press release signed by Maxwell Kumoye, Chairman of the Media Committee of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), dated October 22, 2026.
