The National Legal Adviser of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Barrister Murtala Aliyu Kankia, has intensified grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections, rallying women across the state to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda and other party candidates.

The initiative, which combines electoral mobilisation with a push for greater women’s participation in party affairs, is aimed at building a coordinated network of women across local government areas to strengthen the APC’s grassroots structures ahead of the polls.

At a gathering held at the Assembly Hall of Government Day Secondary School, participants endorsed Tinubu, Radda and other APC candidates expected to contest the 2027 elections.

Beyond the endorsement, Kankia is seeking to institutionalise women’s participation in the party by establishing an organised network capable of mobilising support at the community level while giving women a stronger voice in political decision-making.

As part of the initiative, the APC National Legal Adviser convened a meeting at his residence in Kankia, where local government coordinators were directed to establish inclusive organisational structures through the selection of executive members in their respective areas.

The coordinators have reportedly submitted complete lists of nominees, marking an initial step towards setting up the proposed statewide network. However, details of the number of participating women and the total number of nominees were not made available.

Kankia emphasised that women’s contributions to the APC should not be restricted to election campaigns and voter mobilisation, stressing the need to recognise them as essential stakeholders in the party’s political and administrative processes.

The initiative is expected to provide a platform for women to participate more actively in grassroots engagement, community outreach and the mobilisation of support for APC candidates.

By placing local government coordinators at the centre of the arrangement, the programme seeks to create an organisational framework capable of sustaining political engagement across communities ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The move also brings renewed attention to demands for greater representation of women within party structures, particularly in decisions concerning political appointments, leadership positions and electoral strategies.

Although the proposed network is expected to expand women’s participation, the specific arrangements for their representation in party decision-making have yet to be outlined.

The endorsement of Tinubu, Radda and other APC candidates provides the political focus for the mobilisation, as the party prepares for another round of national and state elections.

The initiative is intended to consolidate support for Tinubu’s re-election bid, rally backing for Radda and strengthen the prospects of other APC candidates seeking elective offices.

However, the endorsement by participants at the gathering does not, on its own, establish the level of electoral support the candidates enjoy across the state.

The immediate challenge will be to translate the submitted nomination lists into functional structures with clearly defined responsibilities, effective coordination and sustained grassroots engagement.

For the APC, the initiative offers an opportunity to combine electoral mobilisation with a commitment to broader inclusion. Its success will ultimately depend on the extent to which the proposed network becomes operational across local government areas and whether women secure a meaningful role in shaping party policies and decisions ahead of the 2027 polls.
