FEDAN Marks 13 Years, Reaffirms Commitment to Women’s Empowerment, Safer Transportation

ABUJA, September 25, 2026 — The Female Drivers Association of Nigeria (FEDAN) has marked its 13th anniversary with a renewed commitment to empowering women and youths, expanding economic opportunities and promoting safe, professional and inclusive transportation in Nigeria.
The association, founded by Amb. Eunice Odeghe, said its 13-year journey has focused on increasing women’s participation in the transportation sector while promoting professional driving as a dignified means of livelihood.
In an anniversary statement signed by the president, FEDAN gave glory to Almighty God for what it described as His faithfulness, preservation, blessings and guidance throughout the organisation’s journey.
The association also commended its Board of Trustees, National Executive, state coordinators, state executives, members and volunteers for their contributions to sustaining its vision.
According to FEDAN, its programmes have centred on training and empowering women, creating employment opportunities, promoting entrepreneurship, improving professionalism among drivers, advocating road safety and environmental responsibility, as well as educating transport workers on identifying and reporting signs of human trafficking and other risks on the road.
The association said it has also maintained advocacy against child trafficking, child abuse and child labour, stressing the important role transportation workers can play in protecting vulnerable persons.
Partnerships for Greater Impact
FEDAN acknowledged the contributions of government agencies and partner organisations to its programmes and advocacy initiatives.
It specifically appreciated the Federal Ministry of Transportation, Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO), National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), National Coalition Against Trafficking in Persons (NACTAL) and FIAP.
Other partners recognised by the association include the Transformative Transport Service Design Initiative (TRATSEDI), Association of Nigerian Women in Business Network (ANWBN), Girls Power Initiative (GPI), Nigerian Professional Working Women, transport unions, development partners and other individuals and organisations.
FEDAN said the partnerships have helped expand its reach, strengthen the capacity of women, promote safer roads and create pathways for economic empowerment.
Calls for Wider Opportunities for Women
Looking ahead, the association called for stronger collaboration among government, the private sector, development organisations, transport unions and civil society to expand training, employment, entrepreneurship and leadership opportunities for women in transportation.
FEDAN maintained that increasing women’s participation in transportation could contribute to a more inclusive sector and provide additional economic opportunities for families and communities.
The association reaffirmed its commitment to serving as a voice and umbrella organisation for women drivers across Nigeria while promoting professional, safe and inclusive transportation.
The anniversary was marked under the themes: “13 Years of Service. 13 Years of Empowerment. 13 Years of Advocacy. 13 Years of Impact.”
FEDAN concluded its anniversary message with the declaration: “FEDAN on the Move!”
