AAAU, ABU Sign MOU to Advance Aeronautical, Space Engineering Faculty

The African Aviation and Aerospace University (AAAU), Abuja, and Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen the establishment of a Faculty of Aeronautical and Space Engineering and explore academic collaboration in Online Distance Learning (ODL).
The agreement was signed on Thursday, September 24, 2026, during an engagement between officials of the two institutions, building on an earlier meeting held in May 2026.
Speaking during the engagement, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of AAAU, Dr. Mustapha Sheikh Abdullahi, said the visit was aimed at securing the mentorship and technical expertise of ABU towards establishing the proposed Faculty and exploring opportunities for ODL collaboration.
Abdullahi said the growing demand for specialised manpower in Nigeria’s aviation and aerospace sectors made the establishment of the Faculty increasingly important.
He described ABU as a strategic partner because of its longstanding experience in engineering education, ODL administration and the pool of experienced academics within its Faculty of Engineering.
According to him, the proposed collaboration would also enable AAAU to cater to international students and aviation professionals who require flexible learning arrangements because of their professional commitments.
Responding, the Vice-Chancellor of ABU, Zaria, Prof. Adamu Ahmad, welcomed the AAAU delegation and congratulated the Acting Vice-Chancellor for pioneering a specialised university focused on aviation and aerospace education.
Ahmad assured AAAU of ABU’s commitment to supporting its manpower development objectives, particularly through the university’s Faculty of Engineering and expertise in relevant academic disciplines.
The engagement culminated in the formal signing of the MOU by representatives of both institutions.
The partnership is expected to deepen academic cooperation between AAAU and ABU while supporting the development of specialised manpower and flexible academic programmes in aviation, aerospace and engineering-related fields.
