100MVA Transformer Trips at Apo Substation, Four 33kV Feeders Affected- TCN

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced the tripping of a 100MVA power transformer at the Apo 132/33kV Transmission Substation in Abuja.

TCN, in an urgent notice issued on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, said the 100MVA TR4 transformer tripped in the early hours of the day.

According to the company, preliminary findings indicate oil spillage on the Red Phase High Voltage (HV) bushing of the transformer.

The development has resulted in four 33kV feeders being out of supply, namely H31, H33, H35 and H37.

TCN said its maintenance crew had commenced a detailed investigation of the transformer to determine the exact cause of the tripping and facilitate the necessary repairs.

The company explained that efforts were underway to restore the transformer and normal bulk power supply through the affected facility.

It expressed regret over the inconvenience the incident may cause customers of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) supplied from the affected feeders.

TCN assured affected customers that its engineers were working to achieve a quick restoration of bulk power supply.
