Tsoken Commends FG’s Initiative to Establish Building Materials Hubs Nationwide

The National Coordinator, Asiwaju Again Renewed Hope Support Initiative 2027, and National President, APC Initiative for Good Governance (APC-IGG), Amb. Musa Muhammed Tsoken, has commended the Federal Government for its plan to establish Building Materials Manufacturing Hubs across the six geopolitical zones of the country.
Tsoken said the initiative, announced by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, would strengthen local production, reduce the cost of building materials and make homeownership more affordable for Nigerians.
Akume announced the initiative in Abuja while declaring open the 56th Conference and Annual General Meeting of the Nigerian Institute of Builders (NIOB).
The SGF said the establishment of the hubs was part of efforts to advance the Federal Government’s commitment to providing safe, durable and sustainable housing, in line with the objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Tsoken described the initiative as a timely intervention capable of stimulating economic activities across the country, creating employment opportunities and reducing Nigeria’s dependence on imported building materials.
He also commended the SGF for calling on professional builders to deploy their technical expertise, research capabilities and industry networks toward the development of policies that would transform the housing sector.
According to him, greater use of locally sourced materials, bulk procurement, waste reduction and the application of design-to-cost principles would help address the rising cost of construction.
He further welcomed the call for builders to participate actively in major Federal Government infrastructure projects, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway, while building the capacity of local artisans.
Tsoken also endorsed the SGF’s warning against professional misconduct, poor supervision, substandard materials, construction shortcuts and the engagement of unqualified personnel, noting that such practices could endanger lives and destroy investments.
He urged stakeholders in the built environment to support the Federal Government’s initiative and ensure that the proposed hubs are efficiently managed to achieve their intended objectives.
Tsoken said the initiative, if properly implemented, would contribute significantly to the development of Nigeria’s housing and construction sector while advancing the broader economic objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
