Nigeria Congratulates Gabon on Independence Anniversary… Reaffirms Commitment to Stronger Ties

ABUJA — The Federal Government has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening its longstanding relationship with Gabon as it congratulated the Central African country on its 2026 Independence Anniversary.
The congratulatory message was conveyed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, on behalf of the Nigerian Government and people, as Gabon marked its independence on August 17.
Nigeria celebrated Gabon’s historical journey, national identity and achievements since gaining independence in 1960, while describing the bilateral relationship between the two countries as one anchored on mutual respect, African solidarity and a shared commitment to peace and sustainable development.
According to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, Nigeria considers Gabon an important partner in Central Africa and appreciates its contributions to regional security, environmental conservation, economic development and peace-building.
The statement noted that Nigeria and Gabon have shared interests in confronting emerging challenges, including climate change, energy security, biodiversity conservation, economic diversification and sustainable development.
The Federal Government expressed its readiness to expand bilateral cooperation with Gabon in key areas such as trade, energy, environmental protection, maritime affairs, education and cultural exchange.
It also stressed the importance of stronger collaboration between public and private sector institutions in both countries, saying such partnerships would deepen existing relations and unlock new opportunities for economic and social development.
Nigeria further commended the continued cooperation between the two countries in promoting African integration and regional stability.
“As Gabon commemorates this significant national milestone, Nigeria celebrates with the Gabonese people and looks forward to further strengthening the cordial and mutually beneficial relationship between both countries,” the statement said.
The Nigerian Government wished Gabon continued peace, prosperity and sustainable development as the country marks another milestone in its national history.
