TDF Hails Trump’s Commendation of Tinubu, Says It Affirms Nigeria’s Anti-Terrorism Efforts

The Democratic Front (TDF) has welcomed what it described as a message of commendation from United States President Donald Trump acknowledging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts in the fight against terrorism, saying the development affirms the administration’s determination to restore peace and security across Nigeria.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Danjuma Muhammad, and Secretary, Wale Adedayo, the group said the commendation was a strong endorsement of the Tinubu administration’s commitment to tackling terrorism and strengthening national security.
According to TDF, the message came at a time when the Federal Government had intensified military operations against terrorist groups and expanded security cooperation with international partners.
The group also argued that the development contradicted earlier narratives about insecurity in Nigeria, claiming that previous criticisms of the country’s security situation had been driven by misinformation and politically motivated propaganda aimed at straining Nigeria’s diplomatic relations with the United States.
TDF further praised President Tinubu’s handling of relations with the U.S., describing his approach as one of diplomatic maturity that helped strengthen bilateral cooperation despite earlier tensions.
It highlighted ongoing Nigeria-U.S. military collaboration, particularly in intelligence sharing and precision operations, which it said had contributed to the disruption of terrorist activities around Nigeria’s borders with Niger, Chad, Cameroon and Benin Republic.
The group maintained that recent security gains across the country reflected improvements in the operational and intelligence capabilities of Nigeria’s security agencies under President Tinubu’s leadership as Commander-in-Chief.
TDF also described the reported commendation from President Trump as recognition of what it called the administration’s achievements in combating terrorism and banditry since May 2023.
The organisation added that the development undermined attempts by opposition politicians to use insecurity as a campaign issue ahead of the 2027 general elections.
It urged Nigerians to reject what it described as efforts to politicise the country’s security challenges and instead support ongoing initiatives aimed at consolidating peace and national stability.
