Defence Ministry Denies Resignation Rumours, Says Minister Remains Focused on Security Mandate

The Federal Ministry of Defence has dismissed as false and malicious reports circulating on social and online media alleging that the Honourable Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), OFR, plans to resign from office.
In a public disclaimer issued on Monday, June 20, 2026, the Office of the Minister described the claims as “entirely fabricated” and the handiwork of mischief makers seeking to mislead the public.
According to the statement signed by Leah Katung-Babatunde, Special Assistant (Media) to the Honourable Minister of Defence, the minister remains fully committed to his responsibilities and is focused on advancing Nigeria’s national security agenda.
“The rumours are absolute falsehood borne out of complete mischief,” the statement said, stressing that General Musa “remains fully focused on his national security mandate, deeply committed to his duties, and completely dedicated to piloting the nation’s defence strategy with results already being seen.”
The ministry urged Nigerians to disregard the false reports and cautioned media organisations and social media users against disseminating unverified information.
It also advised the public to seek clarification directly from the Office of the Honourable Minister of Defence before publishing or sharing reports relating to the minister.
