Abuja, July 15, 2026 – The National Institute for Sports (NIS) and the National Judicial Institute (NJI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening inter-agency collaboration, enhancing capacity building, and advancing sports development in Nigeria.
The agreement was signed on Wednesday at the conference room of the National Judicial Institute in Abuja.
Speaking during the ceremony, the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute for Sports, Comrade Philip Shaibu, described the partnership as a strategic step toward fostering institutional synergy and improving sports administration in the country.
Shaibu said the collaboration underscores both institutions’ commitment to national development through knowledge sharing and stronger cooperation, adding that partnerships among government agencies have become essential to addressing the challenges facing the sports sector.
He stressed that government funding alone can no longer sustain sports development in Nigeria. Drawing from his experience as former Deputy Governor of Edo State, Shaibu advocated increased collaboration with relevant institutions and the exploration of alternative funding sources to support Nigerian teams’ participation in regional and international competitions.
According to him, such partnerships will help tackle financial and administrative constraints while creating a more sustainable framework for sports development.
In his remarks, the Administrator of the National Judicial Institute, Hon. Justice Adejumo, commended Shaibu for his visionary leadership and commitment to repositioning the National Institute for Sports.
He lauded the reforms and initiatives introduced under Shaibu’s administration, describing them as significant milestones in strengthening sports development and institutional capacity in Nigeria.
The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding formally establishes a new partnership between the National Institute for Sports and the National Judicial Institute, with both institutions expressing optimism that the collaboration will promote knowledge exchange, institutional growth, and make meaningful contributions to the development of sports in Nigeria.
The MoU is also expected to open new avenues for cooperation in training, research, and professional development, reinforcing the role of inter-agency partnerships in achieving national development objectives.
