The Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, CCIE, has underscored the importance of digital infrastructure in achieving Nigeria’s $1 trillion economy target, describing technology as the backbone of modern national development.

Speaking at the Nigeria Infrastructure Conference (INFRACON 2026), organised by the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), Inuwa said digital infrastructure must be prioritised alongside traditional investments in roads, railways and power.

According to him, every sector of the economy is increasingly powered by technology, making it imperative for Nigeria to embed digital solutions into infrastructure development through smart cities, improved connectivity, cloud computing and digitised public services.

The NITDA Director-General also highlighted the agency’s collaboration with NACCIMA to digitise the association’s operations while supporting its members in advancing Nigeria’s digital infrastructure agenda.

He welcomed the Federal Government’s renewed commitment to Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs), noting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s approval of the revised PPP framework would encourage greater private sector participation in infrastructure delivery.
The conference brought together policymakers, investors, development partners and industry leaders to examine Nigeria’s infrastructure deficit and explore innovative financing mechanisms and PPP models across transport, energy, housing and digital infrastructure sectors.
