Defence Minister Unveils Armoured Vehicles in Sokoto, Urges Troops to Crush Terrorists

The Honourable Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), has commissioned a newly acquired fleet of armoured vehicles and security equipment procured by the Sokoto State Government, describing the initiative as a major boost to Nigeria’s fight against insecurity.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony in Sokoto on Wednesday, the Defence Minister praised Governor Ahmed Aliyu for demonstrating strong leadership and commitment to protecting lives and property through significant investment in security infrastructure.
General Musa said the acquisition aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises the protection of citizens, restoration of peace, and creation of a secure environment for economic growth and national development.
He stressed that combating emerging security threats requires close collaboration among the federal, state and local governments, noting that the new combat assets would enhance force protection, improve troop mobility and strengthen rapid response capabilities in the region.
The Minister also commended the Sokoto State Government for complementing military operations with community-based intelligence initiatives, describing public trust and timely intelligence as critical pillars of effective security operations.
While acknowledging the importance of modern military equipment, General Musa emphasised that professionalism, discipline and inter-agency cooperation remain essential to achieving lasting security.
Addressing troops and other security personnel, he urged them to deploy the newly commissioned assets responsibly, uphold the rule of law, and justify the public investment through dedicated service and decisive action against criminal elements.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to leveraging advanced technology, improved personnel welfare and stronger partnerships to defeat insecurity and build a safer, more prosperous nation where citizens can live and work without fear.
