With 15 days left until the start of the 2026 Commonwealth Games, excitement is mounting as about 3,000 athletes from 74 Commonwealth nations and territories prepare to converge on Glasgow, Scotland, for one of the world’s premier multi-sport events.
The Games, scheduled for July 23 to August 2, will feature 10 sports and 215 medal events, bringing together some of the Commonwealth’s finest athletes in a celebration of sporting excellence.
Nigeria will be among the nations seeking podium success alongside traditional sporting giants including Australia, England, India, Canada, New Zealand, Scotland, South Africa, Wales, Jamaica, Malaysia, Singapore, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Kenya, and Trinidad and Tobago.
This year’s edition will also mark the debut of Gabon and Togo, increasing the number of participating Commonwealth nations and territories to 74.
Organisers have adopted a streamlined approach by staging the Games across four existing venues in Glasgow, promoting sustainability and cost efficiency while maintaining world-class competition. The Scottish city previously hosted the Commonwealth Games in 2014 and returns as host 12 years later with a focus on delivering a compact yet memorable event.
As the countdown continues, athletes from across the Commonwealth are intensifying final preparations ahead of the opening ceremony, with Glasgow set to become the centre of global Commonwealth sport as competitors chase medals and national pride.
