President of the Nigeria Aquatics Federation (NAF), Lekan Fatodu, has urged Nigeria’s four swimming representatives to uphold the country’s pride and strive for podium finishes at the 2026 Commonwealth Games scheduled to hold in Glasgow, Scotland, from July 23 to August 2.

Fatodu gave the charge as the Nigerian quartet of Abduljabar Adama, Clinton Opute, Collins Ebinga and Dorcas Oka continued the final phase of their preparations at a training camp in Aberdeen, Scotland, ahead of the Games.

He commended the athletes for earning their places on the national team through hard work and dedication, urging them to compete with courage, discipline and determination while representing both Nigeria and the federation with distinction.

“You are carrying the hopes and aspirations of millions of Nigerians. Beyond competing for medals, you are ambassadors of the Nigeria Aquatics Federation and our great nation. Let your conduct, commitment and performances reflect the true Nigerian spirit,” Fatodu said.

Expressing confidence in the team’s readiness, the NAF President said the Aberdeen training camp had provided the swimmers with the ideal environment to fine-tune their preparations ahead of the multi-sport event.

“We have confidence in your abilities and believe you have what it takes to win laurels for Nigeria. Stay focused, trust in your preparation and give your very best every time you step into the pool. The federation and the entire country are behind you,” he added.

Fatodu reaffirmed the federation’s commitment to developing aquatics across Nigeria, describing the Commonwealth Games as another opportunity for the country’s swimmers to showcase their progress against some of the world’s finest athletes.

According to him, success at the Games would not only be a personal milestone for the athletes but would also inspire a new generation of swimmers and further accelerate the growth of aquatics in the country.

The Nigerian swimmers are expected to conclude their training programme in Aberdeen before departing for Glasgow, where they will join thousands of athletes from across the Commonwealth.

Nigeria will be hoping the quartet can deliver strong performances and further enhance the nation’s profile in international aquatics.
