The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast thunderstorms and varying intensities of rainfall across several parts of the country on Thursday, June 25, 2026, while urging residents and airline operators to take necessary precautions against adverse weather conditions.
According to the weather outlook issued by NiMet’s Central Forecast Office, parts of northern Nigeria are expected to experience sunny skies with patches of clouds in the morning, alongside thunderstorms and rainfall in Borno, Gombe, Bauchi, Adamawa, Taraba, Kebbi and Kaduna states.
As the day progresses, moderate thunderstorms and rainfall are expected in Taraba, Adamawa, Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi, Kebbi, Zamfara, Sokoto and Katsina states.
In the North-Central region, NiMet predicted a cloudy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine. Thunderstorms accompanied by light to moderate rainfall are expected in parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nasarawa, Kwara, Niger, Benue and Plateau states during the morning hours.
Later in the day, similar weather conditions are anticipated across the FCT, Nasarawa, Kogi, Niger, Plateau and Kwara states.
For the southern region, the agency forecast cloudy conditions with prospects of light rainfall over Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Abia and Ebonyi states in the morning. Afternoon and evening showers are expected in parts of Anambra, Enugu, Abia, Imo, Ebonyi, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa and Edo states.
NiMet warned that strong winds could precede rainfall in areas likely to experience thunderstorms and advised residents to secure loose objects to prevent damage. The agency also cautioned motorists against driving during heavy rainfall and urged the public to disconnect electrical appliances from power sources during storms.
Residents were further advised to stay away from tall trees to avoid injuries from falling branches, while airline operators were encouraged to obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet to aid operational planning.
The agency urged Nigerians to remain updated through its regular weather forecasts and advisories.
