National Sports Commission Hails Sunday Akin Dare at 60, Praises Lasting Sports Reforms

The National Sports Commission has celebrated former Minister of Youth and Sports, Sunday Akin Dare, on the occasion of his 60th birthday, describing him as a transformational figure whose contributions continue to shape the growth of Nigerian sports.
In a tribute marking the Diamond Jubilee celebration on May 29, Chairman of the Commission, Shehu Dikko, commended Dare’s dedication to national development and his sustained commitment to repositioning sports as a strategic national asset.
Dikko noted that Dare has remained instrumental in the ongoing reforms within the sports sector, adding that the re-establishment of the NSC has brought renewed momentum and success to Nigerian sports administration.
According to him, the sports industry is fortunate to still benefit from Dare’s experience and influence in government, describing his contributions as pivotal to the current progress being witnessed across the sector.
Also speaking, Director General of the Commission, Bukola Olopade, praised the former minister for laying solid foundations that continue to drive sports development initiatives in the country.
Olopade said several ongoing programmes, including elite athlete support schemes and grassroots sports revival efforts, are building on policies and structures introduced during Dare’s tenure as minister.
He further described Dare as a mentor and impactful leader whose guidance and experience have continued to inspire many within and outside the sports sector.
The Commission wished the former minister continued success in his personal life, political career and future national service engagements.
