The Federal Government of Nigeria has extended warm congratulations to the Government and people of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia on the occasion of the country’s National Day, celebrated annually on May 28.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja through the Spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi, Nigeria described Ethiopia’s National Day as a historic celebration that reflects the country’s enduring sovereignty, resilience, and commitment to unity and national progress as Africa’s oldest independent nation.
Nigeria commended Ethiopia’s longstanding contributions to African unity and integration, particularly its strategic role as host of the Headquarters of the African Union. The Federal Government also praised Ethiopia’s commitment to dialogue, regional peace, multilateral diplomacy, and continental cooperation.
According to the statement, Nigeria and Ethiopia share a deep bond of friendship and solidarity as two of Africa’s most populous and influential nations, with a shared vision for a peaceful and prosperous continent. The ministry noted that bilateral relations between Abuja and Addis Ababa remain robust and multifaceted, driven by mutual interests in regional stability and economic revitalisation.
The Federal Government highlighted the growing economic cooperation between both countries, especially the investments of Dangote Industries in Ethiopia’s cement and fertilizer sectors, describing them as transformative for industrial development and regional trade.
Nigeria further expressed optimism about finalising broader agreements and partnerships in other strategic sectors for the mutual benefit of both nations.
Reaffirming its support for Ethiopia’s domestic reform efforts and stabilising role in the Horn of Africa, Nigeria expressed confidence that relations between both countries would continue to strengthen under the framework of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), promoting increased trade, investment, and shared prosperity across the continent.
The statement concluded with renewed felicitations to the Government and people of Ethiopia on the occasion of their National Day.
The statement was signed by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja.
