The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction has reaffirmed its commitment to improving the welfare of vulnerable Nigerians through strengthened collaboration with international development partners.

This was disclosed during a meeting between the Ministry and a delegation from the World Bank held on May 22, 2026, at the conference room of the Honourable Minister in Abuja.

Speaking during the meeting, the Honourable Minister, Dr. Bernard Doro, said the National Social Registry has evolved beyond a mere database to become a strategic national tool for identifying poor and vulnerable households across the country.

According to him, the registry ensures that social intervention programmes are evidence-based, properly targeted and capable of delivering meaningful impact to beneficiaries.

Dr. Doro stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains committed to lifting millions of Nigerians out of poverty through effective social protection initiatives and inclusive welfare programmes.

He also expressed optimism that more development partners would join hands with the Federal Government to improve access to healthcare, education and other critical social services for vulnerable households nationwide.

The World Bank delegation, led by Mr. Roberts Chase, reiterated the Bank’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s social intervention programmes. He noted that Nigeria currently has the largest social registry in Africa, describing it as a critical asset in addressing poverty and social vulnerability.

According to the press statement signed by the Director of Information and Public Relations of the Ministry, Janet McDickson Noah, the meeting focused on emergency support mechanisms and strategies aimed at improving the living conditions of millions of vulnerable Nigerians.
