Nigerian governance received a major boost on Tuesday as the Federal Character Commission (FCC) officially launched a new website and integrated digital platform, drawing commendations from top government officials including the Vice President, First Lady, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), and the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
According to the statement signed by Ademola Lawrence, Spokesperson at FCC Headquarters on April 28, 2026, the landmark event, held at the Presidential Villa Banquet Hall, Abuja, came less than 100 days into the tenure of the Fifth Commission and attracted a distinguished gathering of stakeholders from across the Executive, Legislature, and key national institutions.
In her welcome address, FCC Executive Chairman, Hulayat Motunrayo Omidiran, described the unveiling as a defining moment in the Commission’s reform agenda, noting that the platform represents a strategic step toward modernizing service delivery and enhancing public engagement.
She emphasized that the initiative aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly in advancing digital transformation, innovation, and inclusive governance.
Speaking on behalf of the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, represented by Hajiya Laila Barau Jibril, highlighted the platform’s role in bridging the gap between government and citizens, promoting transparency and equal access to information.
Similarly, Vice President Kashim Shettima, represented by Mallam Sadiq Wanka, commended the Commission for leveraging technology to strengthen fairness, national cohesion, and institutional efficiency.
In his dual capacity, SGF George Akume formally unveiled the digital platform on behalf of the President, describing it as a strategic tool for improving transparency, institutional performance, and accountability across government processes.
Also lending legislative support, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, represented by Hon. Idris Wase, Chairman of the House Committee on Federal Character, praised the FCC leadership for embracing innovation and aligning its operations with global best practices.
He noted that the platform would enhance oversight, compliance, and equitable access to opportunities—core objectives of the Federal Character principle.
The event witnessed the presence of heads and representatives of over 700 Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), alongside key institutions such as the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, Code of Conduct Bureau, Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, and Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission.
Others in attendance included the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, led by its Chairman/CEO, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, as well as representatives from academia and critical public institutions.
The FCC noted that the digital platform will enhance compliance monitoring, improve access to information, and strengthen its mandate of ensuring fairness and equitable representation across Nigeria’s diverse federation.
