Owerri West Gears Up for Grand Easter Monday Homecoming in Honour of Victor Muruako
Oru Leonard
Owerri West Local Government Area is set to witness a wave of jubilation on Easter Monday as the people of Ihiagwa Kingdom and the wider Owerri West community prepare to accord a grand reception to one of their most illustrious sons, Hon. Chief Barr. Prince Victor Chinemerem Muruako, KSJI, (Ekwueme Owerri West and Dike Ogu) of Ihiagwa Kingdom.
The highly anticipated event is expected to attract dignitaries from across political, traditional, and civil society circles, all coming together to celebrate a leader whose legacy in public service continues to inspire admiration both locally and nationally.
Hon. Prince Muruako, who has distinguished himself through visionary leadership, is widely recognized for revitalizing the Fiscal Responsibility Commission at a critical time in its history. The Commission, which once faced the threat of being scrapped following recommendations by the Steve Oronsaye Committee in 2014, has been repositioned under his leadership into a stronger and more impactful institution central to Nigeria’s fiscal discipline and national development.
Among his landmark contributions, he developed a standardized template for calculating operating surplus—an innovation that has significantly enhanced remittances into the Consolidated Revenue Fund (CRF), thereby boosting the Federation’s revenue profile.
His leadership has also elevated the Commission’s global visibility, attracting collaboration with key international and local development partners such as the IMF, USAID, ROLaC, CISLAC, PLSI, and the Centre for Social Justice. These partnerships have further strengthened the Commission’s role within the international fiscal governance community.
Within the Commission, Hon. Muruako has demonstrated a strong commitment to staff welfare and capacity building. His tenure has seen consistent training opportunities and remarkable career progression for staff members, including the facilitation of up to four promotions within a relatively short period—an achievement widely regarded as exceptional.
His strategic engagements with the National Assembly, the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, and civil society organizations have significantly deepened awareness and implementation of fiscal responsibility principles among key stakeholders.
Beyond the national stage, his record in grassroots governance continues to stand out. As former Executive Chairman of Owerri West Local Government Area, he set a benchmark for transparency, inclusiveness, and people-oriented leadership. His administration delivered impactful projects in rural infrastructure, healthcare, education, water supply, and electrification—initiatives that continue to benefit communities across the area.
His open-door policy, humility, and inclusive leadership style have fostered unity and trust among traditional rulers, community leaders, labour unions, women groups, and youth organizations, earning him a reputation as a leader of integrity and vision.
Notably, many sons and daughters of Owerri West have secured meaningful employment opportunities within the Fiscal Responsibility Commission through his leadership, further strengthening his connection with the community.
As anticipation builds ahead of the Easter Monday reception, community leaders and stakeholders have continued to describe Hon. Muruako as a rare breed of public servant—an astute administrator, accomplished lawyer, and grassroots mobilizer whose contributions to national development and community advancement remain both visible and enduring.
The upcoming celebration is expected to serve not only as a homecoming but also as a powerful recognition of a life dedicated to service, excellence, and impactful leadership. Indeed, Owerri West is poised to celebrate one of its finest sons in what promises to be a memorable and well-deserved honour.
