ABUJA — Nigeria is set to host the eighth edition of the Nigeria–European Union (EU) Ministerial Dialogue on Monday, March 23, 2026, in Abuja, as both sides move to strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation across critical sectors.
The meeting, scheduled to take place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters in Tafawa Balewa House, will bring together top officials from Nigeria and the European Union to review ongoing engagements and chart a path for deeper collaboration.
According to a statement signed by the MFA Spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa on Sunday, 22 March 2026, Nigeria’s delegation will be led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, while the EU team will be headed by Kaja Kallas, who is expected to arrive in Abuja on Sunday ahead of the talks.
As part of her visit, Kallas will hold bilateral discussions with Tuggar focused on enhancing Nigeria–EU relations and advancing shared priorities. She is also scheduled to meet with Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, at the Presidential Villa, in a move aimed at reinforcing diplomatic and strategic ties.
A joint press briefing by both leaders is expected after the dialogue, where key outcomes and new areas of cooperation will be unveiled.
The ministerial dialogue is expected to cover a wide range of issues, including trade and investment, security, governance, migration, climate action, and sustainable development. Officials say the platform remains central to consolidating the partnership between Nigeria and the EU, built on shared commitments to multilateralism and mutual respect.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed Nigeria’s readiness to deepen its engagement with the European Union, expressing optimism that the meeting will deliver meaningful and forward-looking outcomes.
