CLEEN Foundation, in partnership with the Innocent Chukwuemeka Chukwuma Empowerment Foundation (ICCEF) and Centre for Memories, will host the 5th Year Memorial Event and the 4th Annual Innocent Chukwuemeka Chukwuma Impact & Legacy Lecture Series in honour of the late human rights advocate and police reform champion, Innocent Chukwuemeka Chukwuma.
The memorial lecture is scheduled to hold on Thursday, April 9, 2026 in Enugu.
This annual lecture series celebrates the enduring legacy of Innocent Chukwuemeka Chukwuma, whose lifelong commitment to democratic governance, justice sector reform, and citizens’ rights helped shape Nigeria’s civil society and accountability landscape. As the founding Executive Director of CLEEN Foundation and a respected thought leader in security sector reform, his work continues to inspire new generations of reformers, activists, and public policy leaders across Africa.
The 2026 lecture will be delivered by renowned public policy scholar, Dr. Sam Amadi, Associate Professor at the Abuja School of Social and Political Studies. Dr. Amadi is widely recognized for his contributions to governance reform, public policy analysis, and democratic accountability in Nigeria. His reflections at the lecture will explore contemporary governance challenges and pathways for sustaining reformist leadership in Nigeria.
The memorial event will bring together civil society leaders, academics, policymakers, security sector practitioners, development partners, and young reform advocates to reflect on the life, ideals, and impact of the man Innocent Chukwuemeka Chukwuma. It will also serve as a platform to interrogate critical governance issues while reaffirming commitments to justice, transparency, and people-centered public institutions.
The annual lecture series is designed not only as a moment of remembrance but also as a call to action for citizens and institutions to sustain the values that defined Chukwuma’s life such as courage, integrity, service to humanity, and professionalism. Members of the media, civil society organizations, students, and the general public are warmly invited to attend (virtually or physically); and participate in this important reflection on legacy, leadership, and Nigeria’s democratic future.
