The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) on Thursday convened a high-level stakeholder meeting aimed at strengthening collaboration and resolving operational challenges within the aviation sector.

The meeting, held on 5 March 2026 at the AVSEC Training Centre, ITZ of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, brought together key aviation stakeholders and industry operators to deliberate on issues affecting airport operations and future development.

The FAAN Managing Director/Chief Executive, Olubunmi Kuku, who was represented by the Director of Commercial and Business Development, Adebola Joy Agunbiade, led the Authority’s delegation. Other FAAN officials present included the Director of Human Resources and Administration, Emiola Luqman; Director of Aviation Security Services, Afegbai Albert Igbafe; Director of Special Duties, Obiageli Orah; Director of Cargo Developments and Services, Olalekan Thomas; Director of Corporate Services, Jensen Asaba; and the Regional General Manager, North Central/Airport Manager of the airport, Danjuma Ahmadu.

Discussions during the session focused on critical operational issues such as airport infrastructure, Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) activities, apron access control, compliance with home-based aircraft parking regulations, and cargo development plans.

Stakeholders present at the forum included representatives from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Customs Service, airlines, and construction firm Julius Berger Nigeria, among others.

Participants called for sustained support from FAAN in protecting aviation-related businesses and encouraged greater private sector participation in infrastructure development, particularly in areas such as apron expansion and taxiway construction.

During the meeting, FAAN also unveiled plans for major infrastructure projects at the airport, including the development of a dedicated cargo and freight centre, construction of a second runway, additional hangars, improved access roads, and other supporting facilities aimed at positioning the airport for future growth.

Stakeholders described the engagement as a positive step toward strengthening industry cooperation and urged FAAN to sustain regular consultative forums to promote understanding, address operational concerns, and enhance service delivery across the aviation sector.

Speaking on behalf of the FAAN Managing Director, Ms. Agunbiade thanked participants for their contributions and reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to continued stakeholder engagement for the mutual benefit of the aviation industry.
The statement was issued by Henry Agbebire, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at FAAN.
