The NACCIMA Secretariat on Wednesday, 18th February 2026, hosted a delegation from the Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA), led by its Director General/CEO, Mrs. Bola Odukale, on a courtesy visit aimed at strengthening collaboration between both institutions. Also in attendance at the Secretariat was Chief Emmanuel Avworo, Chairman of NACCIMA Rules of Origin Committee.
In her remarks, Mrs. Odukale expressed sincere appreciation to the Director General of NACCIMA for receiving the delegation and for the warm hospitality extended to her team. She noted that the visit was part of ongoing efforts by the NIA to deepen engagement with key private sector institutions and to build stronger partnerships that support enterprise growth and economic resilience.
She emphasized the strategic role of the insurance industry in safeguarding businesses against operational, financial, and emerging risks, particularly in a dynamic economic environment. According to her, stronger collaboration between the insurance industry and NACCIMA would enhance awareness among the organised private sector operators on the importance of risk management, asset protection, and business continuity planning.
In his response, the Director-General of NACCIMA, Olusola Obadimu, noted that the Association maintains long-standing strategic relationships with key public and private sector institutions and has consistently played a pivotal role in advancing Nigeria’s business and trade environment.
He proceeded to provide an overview of NACCIMA’s mandate as the umbrella body for chambers of commerce, industry, mines and agriculture in Nigeria, highlighting its core functions in policy advocacy, trade promotion, private sector development, and stakeholder engagement. He emphasized the Association’s nationwide structure and its commitment to representing and protecting the interests of businesses across various sectors of the economy.
The Director-General further reiterated NACCIMA’s readiness to strengthen collaboration with the insurance industry in driving risk awareness, enterprise sustainability, and inclusive economic growth.
Chief Avworo drew the meeting’s attention to recent unwholesome practices by aleged customs agents in Burkina Faso, Mali & Niger that recently announced their withdrawal from ECOWAS in slamming spurious charges on Nigerian exporting companies thereby disregarding the use of the Brown Card.
Following extensive deliberations, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to structured collaboration and agreed on the following action points:
1. NIA will formally provide a detailed outline of proposed areas of interest for collaboration, including specific initiatives, priority sectors and possible implementation frameworks to guide joint engagement with NACCIMA.
2. Both parties will await feedback from the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the issue of the ECOWAS Brown Card. The response is expected to provide clarity on regulatory alignmen and stakeholder coordination.
